How to Upload the Website by FTP

One of the methods for uploading a website to a server is File Transfer Protocol (FTP). FTP is a fast and secure way to transfer large files, such as website files, from your local computer to your web server. This article will show you how to upload your website to a server using FTP.

Step 1: Obtain FTP Access

The first step in uploading your website using FTP is obtaining access to your web server through FTP. You need a username and password for the FTP account to do this. You can use your cPanel username and password to access the FTP, or you can set up an FTP account by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Go to the "Files" section and click "FTP Accounts."
  3. Fill in the required information, including the FTP account name, password, and directory.
  4. Click on "Create FTP Account."

Step 2: Find the Hostname:

While you can use your domain name or server IP as the FTP host address, we recommend you use the server's Hostname to avoid any SSL warning. To find the server's Hostname, login to your N6 Cloud's Clients account, navigate to Services and click the desired service on the side menu. Click on your Service name in the table. Choose "Account Info / Usage." Scroll down to find the Hostname in the Server Information table.

Step 3: Connect to the server using FTP Client

Once you have created an FTP account, you can connect to your web server using an FTP client. Many free and paid FTP clients are available, such as FileZilla, WinSCP, and Cyberduck. In this article, we will use FileZilla, a popular and widely used FTP client, to demonstrate the process.

  1. Download and install FileZilla.
  2. Launch FileZilla and enter your FTP login credentials, including the server name, username, and password.
  3. Click on "Quickconnect."

Step 4: Uploading Files

Once connected to your web server, you can start uploading your website files. To upload files using FileZilla, follow these steps:

  1. On the right side of the FileZilla window, navigate to the local folder where your website files are stored.
  2. On the left side of the FileZilla window, navigate to the root directory of your website on the web server.
  3. Select the files you want to upload and drag and drop them from the right to the left side of the FileZilla window.

Step 5: Verify the Upload

After you have uploaded your website files, it is important to verify that the upload was successful and that the files are accessible on the web. To do this, you can open your web browser and navigate to your website. If everything is working correctly, you should see your website as it appears online.

With the steps outlined above, you should be able to upload your website to your web server in a matter of minutes. Whether a beginner or an experienced webmaster, using FTP is a convenient and reliable way to manage your website.
