What is URL Redirect?
Redirecting URLs is the process of Forwarding a user from one URL to another. It helps ensure a smooth user experience and site structure. It is useful in enhanced user experience, navigation, SEO, and handling changes in content or URLs.
You can use cPanel to redirect the URLs. Login to your cPanel account. Locate Domain>>Redirects.
For redirecting, you have two options,
Permanent 301 Redirect:
A 301 redirect indicates a permanent move of a page to a new URL. This type of redirect is valuable when you want to maintain SEO value and link equity from the old URL to the new one. It's commonly used when a page's URL has changed permanently or when merging two websites.
If you've changed the URL structure of your website, setting up 301 redirects ensures that visitors and search engines are directed to the new URLs, preventing "404 Not Found" errors.
Temporary 302 Redirect:
A 302 redirect signifies a temporary move of a page. It doesn't transfer the same SEO value as a 301 redirect and is often used for short-term situations. Search engines might keep the original URL indexed and not replace it with the redirected URL.
When you're conducting A/B testing on a page, you might temporarily redirect a portion of your visitors to a different version of the page to compare performance.
The next step is to select the domain or sub-domain you want to redirect. Further, it will give the option to enter or choose the path for redirections such as /my pages
Enter the URL you wish your rule to redirect traffic to in the Redirects to text box.
The radio buttons under www. redirection allow you to customize your redirection rule. You can choose to redirect addresses with or without the www prefix and choose a Wild Card Redirect, which will redirect all files within a directory to the same filename in the redirected directory. Note that you cannot use a Wild Card Redirect to redirect your main domain to a different directory on your site.
Click Add to save your redirection settings.
